The Settings window
Where every ScreenSharePRO preference lives, how to find a setting quickly, and how saving works.
Open Settings from the sidebar of the main window. It has eight pages, listed on the left; each one is explained in its own article in this section.
| # | Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Start ScreenSharePro when I sign in | On | Adds ScreenSharePRO to your Windows start-up programs, so it is running (hidden in the tray) as soon as you sign in and this computer is ready for viewers. Untick it to start the app only when you open it. Only for your Windows account - no administrator rights needed. |
| 2 | Notify me when minimized to the tray | On | Closing the main window does not quit the app - it keeps running in the tray. With this on, a small notification reminds you of that once per session. Untick it to hide the reminder. |
| 3 | Install updates automatically | On | New versions install on their own, but only while nobody is using the computer - nobody signed in, or the screen locked for 30 minutes - and never while a viewer is connected. Untick it and the app tells you when an update is ready, and you choose when to install it. An update the server marks as required is always installed. Applies to everyone who uses this computer, so changing it asks for Windows administrator approval. If approval is refused, the box goes back to what it was and a "Not changed" message appears. On a per-user install (no background service) this box is off and greyed: you are always asked. |
| 4 | Display name | Blank | The name the other person sees for you in their Connected viewers list, in recording notices and on your shared pointer. Leave it blank to use your Windows user name and computer name. Up to 60 characters. A shared pointer shows only the first 6 characters. |
| 5 | Ask for feedback after sessions | On | After you view a computer for two minutes or more you may get a short "How was this session?" question - at most once a week, and always after a session that ended unexpectedly. Untick it to never be asked. |
| 6 | Suggest a feature or check known issues | - | Opens our feedback board, where you can suggest a feature, vote for other people's ideas, or check whether a problem is already known. |
Find a setting
Type into Search settings at the top right. Settings on every page are filtered as you type; press Esc to clear the search.
Saving
- Changes take effect only when you click Save Settings. If you close the window with unsaved changes, ScreenSharePRO asks whether to discard them.
- A few settings apply to everyone on this computer (automatic updates, and the two sign-in-screen options under Unattended Access). Saving those asks for Windows administrator approval.
- Some settings are the starting value for each session - keyboard, mouse and clipboard sharing - and can be switched for one session without changing the setting.
Important: Two checkboxes on the Clipboard & Files page - Share copied text between remote computers and Ctrl + right-click paste menu - are not covered by the unsaved-changes warning. If you change only those, click Save Settings before closing.
