Lock, restart or shut down the remote computer
Use the Remote menu to lock, restart or shut down the computer you are viewing - and what happens to your session.
Click Remote on the toolbar.
| Item | What it does | Asks first? |
|---|---|---|
| Lock remote | Locks the remote computer (the same as Win+L, which cannot be sent as a key). | No |
| Restart remote… | Restarts the remote computer after 5 seconds. Everyone connected is disconnected; you can reconnect once it is back. | Yes |
| Shut down remote… | Shuts it down after 5 seconds. It does not come back by itself - nobody can reconnect until someone switches it on, or wakes it with Wake-on-LAN. | Yes - and the answer defaults to No |
After a restart, your window stays open and waits - "The remote computer is shutting down or restarting… Waiting for it to come back" - for up to 7 minutes, and the picture returns by itself.
Note: All three need keyboard control. If the person sharing has turned it off, the remote computer refuses with a message. For waking a computer that is off, see Wake a computer.
Tip: To reach a computer again after a restart without anyone there, set up unattended access first.
